How photosynthesis turns light into food

Follow light energy, water and carbon dioxide through the chloroplast as plants build sugar and release oxygen.

Almost every food chain starts with a plant, alga or other photosynthesising organism. Photosynthesis stores light energy as chemical energy in sugar. Animals that eat plants, and animals that eat those animals, rely on that stored energy. It also releases the oxygen we breathe. Understanding it explains where your food and air come from.
